As part of “Operation NETRA”, the Jharsuguda police have intensified their crackdown on antisocial activities, including drug peddling, arms dealing, and crimes against women. Acting on the direction of the Superintendent of Police, Jharsuguda, a special team was formed and conducted a raid early this morning at Kabarshtanpada near Hanuman Mandir Chowk under Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station limits.
The team, during the operation conducted at around 5:30 AM, apprehended four individuals involved in illegal drug activities. The police seized contraband articles including brown sugar, cash, and other materials used for drug packing and distribution. The raid is part of an ongoing effort to curb the growing menace of narcotic drugs in the district and ensure a drug-free society.
According to the police press release, the arrested persons have been identified as Kalyani Kalet @ Dugunu (21), daughter of Chaitanya Kalet of Kabarshtanpada, PS-Sadar, Jharsuguda, Arati Suna (47), wife of Haresh Suna of Kabarshtanpada, PS-Sadar, Jharsuguda, Halima Begum (45), wife of Sk. Nurset of Telibhatta, PS-Sadar, Jharsuguda & Sk. Altaf (22), son of Sk. Nurset of Telibhatta, PS-Sadar, Jharsuguda.
During the search, police recovered one polythene packet containing brown sugar weighing 9.60 grams, 80 small plastic containers, 95 small pieces of colored paper used for brown sugar packing, cash worth ₹7,470, and two mobile phones — Realme Narzo N53 and OPPO A5 Pro 5G from their possession.
The accused have been booked under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act. Police sources said that further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and other links involved in the illegal trade.
SP Jharsuguda appreciated the efforts of the raiding team and urged citizens to cooperate with the police in providing information about drug-related activities in their localities. The operation reflects the district police’s commitment to curbing the drug menace and maintaining law and order.
The arrested individuals will be forwarded to court, and further legal proceedings are in process.
